The “2023 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (2023MIECF)” held three Green Forum sessions today (18 August), bringing together experts and scholars from Mainland China and Macao, as well as professionals from home and abroad to discuss key international environmental issues, thereby promoting green development.
The third session of the Green Forum was held this afternoon under the theme of “Finding Innovative Solutions for Air Pollution, Waste and Wastewater Management”, where experts, scholars and professionals from various sectors were invited to share their experiences and insights on current environmental governance. The session also provides room for exploration of more comprehensive and diverse innovative technologies and its applications, aiming to better construct the ecological civilisation and achieve sustainable development goals of the society.
Mr Li Huiquan, Professor of the Institute of Process Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences, delivered a keynote speech titled “Innovation Progress in Solid Waste Resource Utilisation Technology”. His presentation mainly focuses on the technological innovation progress in the field of solid waste resource utilisation of typical types of solid waste, including industrial solid waste and domestic waste. Moreover, he envisions technological needs for accelerating the construction of the waste recycling system.
In addition, other keynote speakers also delivered speeches on the topics of “Hong Kong’s Innovations in Enhancing Air Quality Management Capability”, “Emissions and Control of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) from Domestic Sources in China”, “Micropollutants Removal in Wastewater Treatment Plants”, and “Overview of Waste Management in Malaysia: Challenges and Moving Forward”.
The following session, fourth session of the Green Forum - “Pan-Pearl River Delta Environmental Protection Industry Conference for Co-operation and Exchange” aims to promote co-operation among the environmental protection industries in Macao and the Pan-Peal River Delta Region. During the event, representatives of environmental industry associations from across the nine Pan-Pearl River Delta provinces, Hong Kong and Macao were invited to share their perspectives. They discussed on the development trend of the environmental industry in the Pan-Pearl River Delta provinces, as well as market demands, advantageous technologies, the industries’ shortcomings and intentions for regional co-operation, so as to provide a platform for the industry colleagues to understand the demand and potential of the environmental market in each region and to foster co-operation and exchanges among the Pan-Pearl River Delta. The 2023MIECF also provided a platform for in-depth one-on-one exchanges between the two sides to facilitate the development of green and low-carbon industries.
During the Green Forum, livestreaming and simultaneous interpreting services were offered to encourage greater participation both at home and abroad. Moreover, 2023MIECF applied for professional accreditation for designated forums again and issued certificates of attendance to online and offline attendees, effectively leveraging the MIECF’s role as a platform for professional knowledge sharing.
