2024MIECF Constructs Expertise Sharing Platform to Explore Green Urban Transformation

The 2024 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (2024MIECF), hosted by the Macao SAR Government, will be held from 28 to 30 March 2024. The event is themed around “Reaching the Dual Carbon Goals through Green Transformation”, which is in line with the country’s “dual carbon” goals and the key environmental protection policies enacted by the Macao SAR Government, including the Long-term Decarbonization Strategy of Macao, with the objective of fostering green and sustainable development. During the event, four “Green Forum” sessions will be held, with renowned industry experts at home and abroad to share their invaluable insights into topics such as carbon neutrality and green transformation, seeking to boost green development together.


On the afternoon of the second day (29 March), the “Green Forum” Session 4, under the theme of “Implementing Green Development Solutions to Promote Urban Transformation”, will be held in the Sicily Meeting Room of The Venetian Macao. Sustainable and green low-carbon development gathers great concern of the international community. To tackle climate change, the key to achieve the dual carbon goals and build a green and low-carbon city lies in the widespread application of green technologies and actively promoting the participation and practice of all sectors of society. In this session, experts, scholars and industry professionals are invited to share their insights in urban transformation applied to various related fields, such as green building, transportation, energy, and waste management, thus exploring the path of innovative green development that will provide solutions to improve cities’ adaptation.


The session, moderated by Wong Seng Fat, Interim Master of the Cheng Yu Tung College, University of Macau, will feature speakers including Xu Wei, Director of the Institute of Building Environment and Energy, China Academy of Building Research; Ai Yi, Deputy Director of theAir Quality Division, Beijing Ecology and Environment Bureau; Danny Mak, Environmental Protection Officer (Territory North) of the Hong Kong Environmental Protection Department; José Amaral, Director of Operations, Valorcar; Hermann Koller, Executive Board Member of WKU; and Iwan Prijanto, Chair of the Green Building Council Indonesia. 


In their speeches, the speakers will revolve around topics such as “Developing Zero-carbon Buildings and Move Toward Zero-carbon Cities”, “Supporting Air Pollution Control Through Structural Adjustment in Beijing”, “Use of Smart Technologies for a Low-carbon EIA Process”, “Electric Vehicles and Batteries Recycling”, “Efficient Resource and Waste Management as an Important Contribution for Close Loop Cycle and CO2 Reduction - Example Vienna”, and “Nature-based Solutions, a Modest Way Towards Net-zero in Tropical & Subtropical Regions”.


Simultaneous interpretation services will be available at the venue to facilitate effective communication among attendees from various countries and regions, for them to share and discuss the latest information on environmental protection around the world. In addition, this year, certificates of attendance will be issued to participants of the relevant sessions.
