Founded in the United States, International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) is a public benefit corporation with a mission to improve human health and well- being through the built environment. The WELL building certification program is an evidence-based system for measuring, certifying, and monitoring the performance of building features and other aspects of the built environments that impact the health and wellbeing of the people in the spaces they create, so as to achieve a healthy, safe and sustainable development. IWBI has established an advisory committee dedicated to the hotel and resort industry since 2020 to provide evaluation services for related facilities and operation management. Many hotels, large shopping malls and cultural centres in mainland China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan Region also adopt WELL healthy building certification, including the Fullerton Ocean Park Hotel Hong Kong, Shenzhen Ping An Financial Centre, Shanghai Taikoo Li, and Taipei World Trade Centre, etc.
As a Vice President at IWBI Asia, Richard is responsible for supporting comprehensive advancement in the region, including market development, market strategy, technical support, and education on the WELL Building Standard and WELL Community Standard - Pilot. Richard is based in Shenzhen, but is responsible for business expansions in South and West China regions including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Region, and helps develop Asian markets outside China, such as Southeast Asian countries. He is also a British Registered Architect (ARB, RIBA) and worked as an architect for CPA in UK and gained nearly 10 years of architectural design experience, working on various sustainable building typologies, including commercial, residential and community, schools, leisure facilities, and cultural centres.
