2025MIECF Promotes International Environmental Information Exchange and Boosts Green Transition

From 27–29 March 2025, the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region will host the 2025 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (2025MIECF) under the theme “Innovation and Green Development – Solutions to Build Beautiful Cities”. During the event, three Green Forum sessions will be held, featuring distinguished scholars and experts from Mainland China, Portuguese-speaking countries, Southeast Asia, Europe, Hong Kong, and Macao. These sessions will focus on topics such as green transition, technological innovation, and environmental exchange and co-operation in the Pan-Pearl River Delta region, with the aim of identifying new opportunities for international environmental exchange and collaboration.


The “Green Forum Session 1: Green Transition Boosted by New Quality Productive Forces” will take place on the morning of the second day of the event (28 March) in the Sicily Meeting Room, The Venetian Macao. Promoting green and low-carbon practices is essential for the high-quality development of society in an era characterised by rapid global economic growth and limited resources. Emerging quality productive forces, which integrate advanced technologies, operational efficiency, and high standards, are driving the society and economy towards a green transition.


This session will bring together scholars and experts from home and abroad to offer insights and contribute ideas for green development, including Mr. Xu Bijiu, Director General of the Central Supervision and Coordination Office of Ecological and Environmental Protection, Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China; Ms. Tao Xiaosong, Deputy Director of the General Office, Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China; Mr. José Carlos Pimenta Machado, President of the Management Board, Portuguese Environment Agency; Mr. Gao Bo, Team Leader of the Research Group, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research; and Mr. James Lander, Co-founder and Director of ALGAESYS S.A., and will be moderated by Mr. Wong Seng Fat, Interim Master of the Cheng Yu Tung College, University of Macau.


The speakers will address the following topics: “Applying Green Development Principles to Foster New Quality Productive Forces”, “Cultivate and Enhance New Quality Productive Forces to Drive High-Quality Development with Elevated Levels of Protection”, “Embracing New Challenges towards Green Transition – The Portuguese Perspective”, “New Pollutant Detection Technology and its Application for New Quality Productivity Productive Forces - Taking Microplastics as an Example” and “Circular Water and Waste Avoidance Solutions for Regenerating Economies”. They will explore how new quality productive forces can foster economic growth while safeguarding ecological integrity, ultimately contributing to the realisation of a sustainable future.


Simultaneous interpretation will be provided on the spot to facilitate communication and collaboration on cutting-edge environmental information and technologies among participants from different countries and regions. In addition, this year’s MIECF will continue to seek professional accreditation for designated forums and issue certificates of attendance to participants in designated sessions.
