Hao Jiming

Prof. Hao Jiming, Chinese Academy of Engineering, Dean of the Institute of Environmental Science and Engineering, Tsinghua University (China)

Professor Hao Jiming is the Dean of the Institute of Environmental Science and Engineering, and the Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and the US Academy of Engineering. He received a Ph.D. degree in environmental engineering in 1984 from Cincinnati University. Prof. Hao has been working on air pollution control in China for more than 40 years. He is the leading scientist in the development of a series of control strategies to mitigate the severe air pollution in China, including the major accomplishments in the acid deposition and SO2 emission control, vehicle emission control, and controlling on air pollution complex in megacities and regions. His research has substantially improved our understanding of atmospheric pollution in China. Professor Hao is a recipient of several prestigious national awards including the National Science and Technology Progress Award, National Technology Invention Award and National Natural Science Award. In 2015 he won the Haagen-Smit Clean Air Award and in 2016 the IBM Global Faculty Award.
