Speaker Abstract
Clean Air Plan for Hong Kong
The Environment Bureau of the Hong Kong Special Administration Region (HKSAR) Government released “A Clean Air Plan for Hong Kong” in March 2013. The Clean Air Plan outlines comprehensively and clearly the challenges Hong Kong is facing with regard to air quality as well as relevant policies, measures and plans to tackle air pollution from land and sea transport, power plants and industrial operations. It also seeks to strengthen collaboration between Guangdong and Hong Kong to deal with regional pollution.
The presentation will provide an overview of the Clean Air Plan and the various air quality improvement programs implemented by the HKSAR Government to reduce emissions from vehicles, power plants and marine vessels. The close collaborations between the HKSAR and the Guangdong Governments in improving air quality in the Pearl River Delta (PRD) region over the years including the setting of emission reduction targets under the PRD regional air quality management plan, establishment of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao PRD Regional Air Quality Monitoring Network and the implementation of a Clean Production Partnership Program will also be covered.
