“2019 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition” (2019MIECF) Supplementary Information

Green Forum

A total of eight green forums and one special session will be held from 28 to 29 March 2019, including “Session 1: New Opportunities in the Eco Bay Area – Creating Green Energy Cities”, “Session 2: Green Business Pioneers Roundtable – Corporate Innovation”, “Session 3: Green Business Pioneers Roundtable – Sustainable Investment”, “Session 4: The Ways toward Ecological Civilization”, “Session 5: Leveraging the Macao Platform, Fostering Green Finance to Promote Development in the Greater Bay Area”, “Session 6: Solutions for Green Development – Clean Water”, “Session 7: Green Chemical Forum – Solutions to Tackle Plastic Marine Debris”, “Session 8: Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Session”, and “Keynote Speaker Special Session: Industry Insights with Mr Michael Liebreich”.

Keynote Speaker

This year’s MIECF has invited Mr Michael Liebreich, Founder of New Energy Finance, Former Chairman of the Advisory Board at Bloomberg New Energy Finance and Senior Contributor, and Chairman and CEO of Liebreich Associates, as the keynote speaker. At the Opening Ceremony of the 2019MIECF, he will share his opinion on how the green economy and industrial upgrading could support urban sustainable development. At the Keynote Speaker Special Session to be held on the afternoon of 29 March, moderated by Professor Kou Kun Pang, Vice-Chairman of the Consultative Committee on Environment of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government and Head of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering of the University of Macau, Mr Michael Liebreich will share his insights into “the state of the green industry”.

Mr Michael Liebreich serves on a number of advisory boards, including WWF Switzerland, the OECD Centre on Green Finance, Imperial College’s Masters Programme in Climate Change, Management and Finance, and others. He is a former member of the high-level advisory group for the UN Secretary-General’s “Sustainable Energy for All initiative”, and has served on the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Councils on Sustainable Energy and the New Energy Architecture.

Green Business Co-operation Day and Green Forum

The “Green Business Co-operation Day” will take place in the Sicily Room of The Venetian Macao at 14:30 on 28 March 2019 (Thursday) to offer a forum and business exchange. The forum part of the “Green Business Co-operation Day” is also the first session of the 2019MIECF Green Forum, themed as “New Opportunities in the Eco Bay Area – Creating Green Energy Cities”, where keynote speeches and a panel discussion will take place. The keynote speeches will be respectively delivered by Mr João Carlos Soares, Director-General of Environment at Secretary of State for the Environment, Ministry of Coordinating for Economic Affairs of Timor-Leste, Mr Wong Kam-Sing, Secretary for the Environment of the HKSAR, Mr Wu Daowen, Deputy Director of the Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission (GDDRC) cum Director of the Guangdong Energy Bureau, Mr Hoi Chi Leong, Coordinator of the Office for the Development of the Energy Sector of the MSAR Government, and Mr Zhang Hong, Deputy Inspector of the Beijing Municipal Science & Technology Commission , to share information on regional policies on environmental protection and development trends.

Moderated by Mr António Trindade, Founding President of the Macao Association of Environmental Protection Industry, the panel discussion will be an occasion for Mr Li Mingliang, Deputy General Manager of Guangdong Energy Group Co., Ltd., Mr Benjamin Yue, Principal Advisor to the Executive Committee of Companhia de Electricidade de Macau (CEM), Ms Wu Liyang, Chairman of Guangdong Green Finances Investment Holding Group Limited, Ms Denise Chen, Senior Vice-President cum Chief Sustainability Officer of Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited, and Ms Zhang Ruiyang, Assistant Director of CPD Fund Investment Management Company, to discuss regional co-operation in clean energy innovation, smart grids, technological innovation of electric power, application of technological achievements and green finance, among others .

Sessions 2 & 3: Green Business Pioneers Roundtable

The “Green Business Pioneers Roundtable” will be held in the Florence Room 2201-2302 on the afternoon of 28 March 2019. It comprises the “Corporate Innovation” session and the “Sustainable Investment” session for corporate leaders to share their insights into green development and relevant experience. In-depth discussions about environmental protection will be conducted from a corporate view.

Session 4: The Ways toward Ecological Civilization

Jointly organized by the MIECF organizer and the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China, Session 4: “The Ways toward Ecological Civilization” will be held in the Sicily Room 2401-2502 on the morning of 29 March 2019, in line with the theme of the 2019MIECF. It is aimed to demonsrate how society could benefit from ecologically civilized actions taken for sustainable and green development. Meanwhile, case studies will be offered to raise different stakeholders’s awareness of the importance of ecological priority. Mr Cao Jinqing, Director of the General administrative Office of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China, is invited to deliver a keynote speech on inspiration drawn from ecological conservation concept of Guan Zhong of the State of Qi in ancient China. Other speakers include Mr Xing Changcheng, Deputy Director of the Central Supervision Office of Ecological and Environmental Protection of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment of the People’s Republic of China, Ms Li Weizhen, Director of the Department of Water Ecology and Environment, and Mr Sun Shaofeng, Deputy Director of the Department of Solid Wastes and Chemicals. This session will be moderated by Mr Leong Kun Fong, Ecology Restoration and Greening Consultant at the University of Macau, for experts to share valuable experience and advice on topics such as the “results achieved by the central supervision of ecological and environmental protection”, “case studies and policies on water ecology and environment in Mainland China”, “policies and actions for marine ecology and environmental protection in Mainland China” and “progress of solid wastes environment management”.

Session 5: Leveraging the Macao Platform, Fostering Green Finance to Promote the Development in the Greater Bay Area

Co-organised by the Monetary Authority of Macao (AMCM), Session 5 “Leveraging the Macao Platform, Fostering Green Finance to Promote the Development in the Greater Bay Area” will be held in the Florence Room 2201-2302 on the morning of the second day of the 2019MIECF (29 March). During the session, issues such as “the development direction of green finance in China”, the “simultaneous development of Macao’s role as the ‘Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries’ and green finance”, “green finance innovation and operational structure” and “innovative instruments of green finance” will be discussed. Mr Mo Wangui, Deputy Director of the Institute of Financial Research of the People’s Bank of China, is invited to give professional advice on the development potential and future development direction of China’s green finance sector.

Speakers of Part I of Session 5 “Macro Environment and Development Potential of Green Finance” include Mr He Xiaojun, Director of the Local Financial Supervision Administration of Guangdong Province, Mr. Yang Yiming, Director of Policy and Regulation Division, Local Financial Supervision Administration of Guangdong Province, Mr Zheng Xiaoping, Founder and Vice-President of the China City Development Foundation, and Mr Jacky Yuk Chow SO, BNU Chair Professor in Finance and Director of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Economics and Management. Speakers of Part II of Session 5 “Innovative Instruments of Green Finance” include Mr Sean Kidney, CEO of the Climate Bond Initiative (CBI), Mr Wang Zhen, Director of the Shanghai Science and Technology Exchange Centre (SSTEC), and Mr Daniel Zhu, Professor of Green Finance at Renmin University of China.

Session 6: Solutions for Green Development – Clean Water

Session 6 will be held in the Sicily Room 2401-2502 on the morning of 29 March 2019. Session 6 invites technical providers and relevant experts to share their insights into sustainable and green development, especially solutions to water pollution in urban areas. Mr Guan Yun Tao, Director of the Research Centre for Environmental Engineering and Management, Graduate School at Shenzhen, Tsinghua University, Mr Walter Leung, Chief Engineer (Sewerage Projects) of the Drainage Services Department of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, Mr Zhang Yingjian, Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Ecological Environment Bureau, Mr Rui Cernadas, Managing Director of Ecoserviços Gestão de Sistemas Ecológicos, Lda., and Mr Li Ming, Deputy Director of the Guangzhou Water Authority. Mr Brendo Meulman, Technical Director of DeSaH BV, will serve as the keynote speaker and Mr Pimenta Machado, Vice-President of the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA), will be the moderator.

Session 7: Green Chemical Forum – Solutions to Tackle Plastic Marine Debris

Session 7 will be held in the Florence Room 2201-2302 on the afternoon of 29 March 2019. It is jointly organised by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute and the Environmental Protection Bureau, and co-ordinated by the Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA), the Macau Society of Oceanography and the Macau Chinese Enterprises Association. This session invites speakers from Mainland China, UK and Macao to discuss the issues of marine plastic waste, including its status quo and ways to prevent and reduce marine plastic waste in the Greater Bay Area.

Session 8: Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Session

Session 8 will be held in the Sicily Room 2401-2502 on the afternoon of 29 March 2019. In Part 1 of the session, Mr Jiang Xiaoting, President of the Sichuan Province Environmental Science Association, will share his findings in the visit made by the PPRD delegation to Europe. Part 2 invites Mr Huang Binhui, Deputy Secretary General of the China Association of Environmental Protection Industry, to share updates on environmental protection development in China. And Part 3 is the “Pan-Pearl River Delta Region Eco-Corporate Pioneers Roundtable: Creating Green Values through Ecological Civilization”.

Provide Professional Certification to Enhance MIECF’s Professionalism

This year’s MIECF will provide relevant professional certification for each Forum and the attendees thereof, so as to use MIECF more effectively as a sharing platform for professional knowledge.

Green Public Day

The Green Public Day on the final day of the 2019MIECF (30 March 2019) will provide the public with free access to the Green Showcase. It attempts to increase public awareness and participation in this international green event and promote the concept of a green and low-carbon lifestyle. The series of activities available this year include the lucky draw, the green guided tour, the environmental workshop, family games, the Eco Fun, an exhibition on waste reduction and recycling, and an area of recycled articles. This year’s MIECF continues to provide local schools (including universities, secondary schools and elementary schools) with guided green tours to promote the idea of environmental protection.

Technical Visit

During this year’s MIECF, a technical visit will be organised to the Macao Electronic Waste Recycling Treatment Facility, the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and the Port of Macao to facilitate participants’ understanding of environmental protection efforts made by Macao and its infrastructure. On the final day of the 2019MIECF (30 March), all participants including the public will be organised to visit the Macao Electronic Waste Recycling Treatment Facility.

Visits of 2019MIECF Traders to Zhuhai

In order to improve the efficacy of the 2019MIECF, bring into play the strength of the event as a platform, deepen co-operation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and highlight the theme of the 2019MIECF, the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute will organise for traders participating in the 2019MIECF, especially those from Portuguese-speaking countries and Europe, a technical visit to the environmental protection projects of Zhuhai, Guangdong Province, on 30 March 2019, together with representatives from the local environmental industry.

Application for the “Macao MICE Pass” to Access Four Major Events

Please fill out your personal information properly on the website (https://mice.ipim.gov.mo/) to apply for the “Macao MICE Pass” that has gone through two years’ trial operation to access the four major events hosted or co-ordinated by the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (including the Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition, the Macao Franchise Expo, the Macao International Trade and Investment Fair, and the Portuguese-Speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition (Macao)).

Transport

In order to encourage green transport, the 2019MIECF offers the public free shuttle buses travelling between the exhibition venue and the following stops: Rua do Dr. Pedro José Lobo (The Macau Square), Avenida do Conselheiro Ferreira de Almeida (Near Pak Wai Bus Stop), Rua do Mercado de lao Hon (Near Mei Lin Building Block 4), and Rua de Seng Tou (Near Urbanização Jardim Nova Taipa Block21). Shuttle buses departing from bus stops will be available from 9:30 to 16:15 for the Taipa route and from 9:00 to 15:45 for other routes; shuttle buses will depart from the exhibition venue every 45 minutes between 11:15 and 18:45 to all different bus stops. Complimentary self-park is available at Hall D on a “first come, first served” basis due to limited availability.

Free WIFI Service

In order to facilitate online exchange and communication among traders inside and outside the venue, the 2019MIECF will provide free WIFI connection. Choose “2019MIECF” on the list of available networks to  enjoy free WIFI service. Meanwhile, traders can visit the Online Business Matching Service Platform (http://bm.ipim.gov.mo/) of the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute to search for cooperation projects and identify targets for business matching.
