Mr. Ho De Leong
Chairman of the Waste Management Association of Malaysia
Since graduating in the UK in 1980, Mr Ho De Leong has held various positions ranging from Resident Engineer to General Manager in Malaysia, where he was responsible for a number of water supply projects. After successfully leading the consortium to complete the privatisation tendering of solid waste management and public cleaning services in Malaysia in 1995, Mr Ho was appointed Chief Operating Officer of SWM Environment Sdn Bhd, where he helped the company acquire the franchise licence for solid waste management and public cleaning services granted by 27 local authorities in southern Malaysia. In 2019, Mr Ho was appointed Chief Executive Officer of SWM Environment Sdn Bhd, and has been actively promoting waste management through the Waste Management Association of Malaysia (WMAM) as Co-founder and Chairman. In addition, since 2014, he has served on the Board of Directors of the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA), leading an ISWA Regional Development Network in Asia Pacific, which is now known as an “ISWA Regional Chapter”. In 2015, WMAM won the bid to host the ISWA World Congress under the leadership of Mr Ho, which was successfully held in Kuala Lumpur in October 2018.
