Topic: LEED and Arc as Tools to Measure Performance of Buildings and Cities
Abstract
Building owners and city leaders can benefit from understanding this principle: “What cannot be measured cannot be managed.” The US Green Building Council has built its global respect by producing tools, such as LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), that help measure performance. USGBC has now developed the new Arc platform to help measure performance and can be applied to all buildings, communities, and cities. It is based on five key factors: energy, water, waste, transportation and human factors (such as productivity and human health). Using the Arc platform, USGBC launched LEED for Cities last year. It is a valuable tool for city leaders to measure, evaluate and compare their sustainable performance. This session will discuss the importance measuring performance, describe Arc and LEED for Cities, and provide some examples.
