Multiple Exhibition Zones and Exchange Activities Help Enterprises Seize New Opportunities for Green Development
The 2018 Macao International Environmental Co-operation Forum & Exhibition (2018MIECF) continues to serve as a ‘green platform’ for exchanges and co-operation in the environmental protection sector. In line with the national policy, the Macao SAR Government has introduced a number of policies concerning the promotion of environmental protection and promotion of a “green lifestyle”. At the 2018MIECF, the “Green Showcase” exhibition saw a growth in size, featuring multiple exhibition areas, namely: the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area showcase area; the showcase area for green transportation; showcase area for innovative environmental protection technologies; and the “green” construction pavilion. Exhibitors at 2018MIECF expressed satisfaction with the results of their attendance. They were able to take advantage of Macao’s platform role – including its function as a commercial and trade cooperation service platform between China and the Portuguese-speaking Countries – to expand business to markets in Portuguese-speaking Countries. In addition, on the second day of event, there were 217 business-matching sessions.
In the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area showcase area, Ms. Huang, an exhibitor engaged in the production of lighting equipment, said that this was the first time she had participated in the exhibition in Macao. The results exceeded her expectation. One of the company’s energy-saving light products found favour among many participants. She had many people making enquiries, some of whom even have intention to cooperate. The company wanted to take advantage of Macao’s role as a platform, and explore the possibility to expand to markets in Portuguese-speaking Countries.
Another exhibitor Mr. An, engaged in the production of environmentally-friendly hoses, said that he was also participating at MIECF for the first time and was satisfied with the results. Enterprises can use the MIECF platform to promote new environmentally-friendly products and expand the market for “green” products.
Ms. Fan, an exhibitor from the Pan-Pearl River Delta Region, engaged in technological research, evaluation and monitoring related to the “sponge city” concept (an ecologically friendly alternative to traditional flood defences and drainage systems), said that her stand attracted many people interest in her company’s products. Ms. Fang, a exhibitor showcasing technology for microbiologically-based improvement of water quality, said that this was the second time she had participated in Macao’s MIECF event, and would like to use the MIECF platform to expand the market in Macao for her firm’s products.
Mr. Lim, a sector professional visiting from Malaysia, said he had participated in the MIECF event for many years. During the past two years, he had met European companies via MIECF and had cooperated with them. This year, he successfully negotiated with two exhibitors and had plans for cooperation. They were: a Taiwanese company producing a machine for organic fertiliser; and a paper company based in Jilin Province. Mr. Lin said that Malaysia had a large amount of biomass waste and also abundant raw materials for papermaking. However, there was no available technology for the reuse of such material. Therefore, if the proposed cooperation were successful, these technologies could be introduced into Malaysia. Technical cooperation on the organic fertiliser machine was an especially interesting prospect, Mr. Lim said. As a first step, he considered buying 100 machines for making organic fertiliser. Mr. Lin appreciated the progress MIECF had made in successive editions, especially the constantly-improving quality of the exhibitors the event was able to attract, which made it more appealing as a place to do business. He pointed out that there are more and more exhibitors from Malaysia at MIECF, and he hoped to be able to prepare well for his firm’s participation at MIECF next year. He suggested that MIECF could set up a Malaysian Pavilion to further promote the cooperation between Malaysian companies and those from other parts of the world.
Tomorrow (14 April) is the final day of 2018 MIECF. All business guests are invited to seize more “green opportunities” on the day, and expand their environmental protection business. In addition, in order to facilitate online exchanges and communication between participants, a free Wi-Fi service is provided during the event. Just look for “2018MIECF” in the list of networks, to enjoy the Wi-Fi service. Business guests can use the service to log on to the Macao Trade and Investment Promotion Institute’s (IPIM’s) online business-matching service platform (http://bm.ipim.gov.mo/) to look for environmental protection cooperation projects and learn more about matching intentions.
To promote “green travel”, the organiser has arranged four free shuttle bus lines, connecting the 2018MIECF venue at Venetian Macao to central and northern Macao, and Taipa respectively. The shuttle buses from central and northern Macao run from 9:00am to 3:45pm; buses from Taipa run from 9:30am until 4:45pm; and buses from the 2018MIECF venue run from 11:15am until 6:45pm. Some of the routes will feature electric buses. In addition, free parking is available at Hall D of the venue. Places are limited and on a first-come-first-serve basis. Please join us at this annual event showcasing environmental protection.
