He is a former Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme and now serves as Director of the Oxford Martin School at the University of Oxford and International Vice-Chair of the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development. His speech will be related to this year’s theme “Innovative Green Development for a Sustainable Future”.

Between 30 and 31 March, a total of eight sessions and one special session will be held under the “Green Forum”, including: “Future of Manufacturing – Innovative Sustainable Economy”; “Green Business of Sustainable Coastal Tourism”; “The Blueprint for Innovative Green Development” (co-organised with the Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office at the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the People’s Republic of China); “The Ways to Drive Higher Performance in Green Buildings”; “Sustainable Coastal Management, Climate Adaptation and Resilience of Cities”; “Maximising Energy Saving in Buildings – Efficiency and Assessment”; a special session on “Harnessing Environmental Innovation as Key Driver for Sustainable Development,” hosted by keynote speaker Mr Steiner; a session about the PPRD Region; and  “Green Chemical Forum – Emissions Trading Contributing to the Development of Low-Carbon Industry”.

Green Showcase

The Macao Pavilion at 2017MIECF will be enhanced this year, allowing a debut for the “Green Matching Area” and the “Exhibition and Negotiation Area”. These new features will help to optimise the use of space in the Macao Pavilion, as well as to create new experiences for visitors. Also this year, for the first time – and in line with the theme “Innovative Green Development for a Sustainable Future” – the “Showcase Area for Innovative Environmental Protection Technologies” will be set up at the Macao Pavilion, displaying 11 case studies of the latest environmental protection technologies and products. Meanwhile, the Beijing Pavilion and the Czech Republic Pavilion will also make their debut this year.

Green Business Co-operation Day

The “Green Business Co-operation Day” will be held on the afternoon of 30 March, the first day of the 2017MIECF. Two sessions of the “Green Business Co-operation Day” will be part of the “Green Forum”. Additionally, one signing ceremony will be hosted on the same day. The two sessions will be held at 2pm at Sicily Rooms 2401-2502, in the Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel. Session one will debate the “Future of Manufacturing – Innovative Sustainable Economy”, while session two will focus on “Green Business of Sustainable Coastal Tourism”. These sessions aim to promote exchanges and co-operation among governmental departments, relevant industries, academia and the research and development (R&D) sector in Macao, the PPRD and across the world. Following the sessions, the signing ceremony will be held at 5.30pm in Exhibition Hall A, of the Venetian Macao-Resort-Hotel, covering various environmental protection co-operation projects.

Strengthening matching efforts, promoting online exchanges

IPIM will set up a permanent “Green Exchange” platform during this year’s MIECF, as part of the “Online Business Matching Service Platform”. The “Green Exchange” platform will help MIECF deliver fully on its role as a prominent green platform and promoter of further co-operation between Macao, the PPRD and the EU regarding green projects. The “Green Exchange” platform aims to promote “regional co-operation”, “technology transfer” and “mutual benefits” for all the parties involved. It is specially designed to promote online business matching opportunities for environmental projects, complementing the existing “Online Business Matching Service Platform”. Additionally, the “Green Exchange” platform provides opportunities for exchanges and co-operation among businesses from different regions, further facilitating co-operation between Macao enterprises in the field of environmental protection and those across the world.

Green Public Day: Enjoying a Green Life

The final day of 2017MIECF (1 April) is open to the public, and MIECF welcomes their participation. The “Green Public Day” aims to increase public awareness of topics covered at MIECF and to promote the concept of environmentally-friendly living and a low-carbon lifestyle. The theme of the “Green Public Day” at 2017MIECF is “Let’s Create a Green Environment – Cherish Food and Waste Less”. A variety of activities for families will be arranged to encourage youth participation in environment protection. The “Eco-Market” will also be held, where eco-friendly products will be sold, providing an opportunity for the public to experience a green lifestyle.

Demonstration Visits

Trade visitors and other participants will be invited to visit facilities for electronic technology waste treatment in Macao, for a demonstration of their activities, and to visit the eco-friendly facilities of Sands Cotai Central. The Conrad Macao Hotel, the Sheraton Grand Macao Hotel and the Holiday Inn Macao under the guidance of Sands Cotai Central have respectively won Gold Awards at Macau Green Hotel Award events.

Visit to Zhongshan to promote environmental protection industry

To increase further the effectiveness of 2017MIECF and to deliver fully on Macao’s role as a co-operation platform, IPIM will organise for delegations from the EU, the Portuguese-speaking Countries and Macao attending this year’s edition of MIECF to visit the PPRD on 1 April (the third and last day of the event). These delegations will visit Zhongshan city, in Guangdong Province.
